Life is a collection of stories. Some happy. Some sad. Some are mysteries, some comedies. But gathered together they help us to understand and explain what’s important, where we’ve been, and where we’re going next. And whenever I’m working with a group and they dive straight into the middle of a project or discussion or opportunity, I always said, “you need to give the audience a through-line… help them set the stage and provide context”. And when they ask, “how do you do that?”, I reply, “the same way it was done when you were a child… start by saying “Once upon a time…”
So that’s what I hope this will be… a blog and journal and repository for my stories… a way to enable me (and possibly others) to understand my life and help navigate the future.
I hope and promise to myself that I’ll try to write something each day. I won’t. But I also hope and promise that I won’t turn this instrument of delight and self-discovery into a tool of my own misery. (I have a history of doing that… I’m very good at it.)
So we’ll see… I told a friend about 6 months ago that I had lost myself. Saying that out loud was enough to get me to realize that I needed to leave the job I was at, and now I’m hoping to rediscover me and once again find my path. No promises but hopefully some terrific stories.
